Eligibility for undergraduate membership is based on the following: Must be enrolled as a student at FIT Must have established a GPA at FIT not incoming transfer Must be at least a second-semester sophomore Must be enrolled as a major or minor in a psychology program or a program psychological in nature that is equivalent to a psychology major Must have completed at least 9 semester hours of psychology courses Must have an overall GPA of at least 3.

The purposes of Psi Chi are to provide national recognition of academic excellence, especially for those in psychology; to promote a sense of community with others interested in psychology; to learn about the necessary steps in order to achieve career goals; and to reach out to others through acts of service.
To achieve these goals, Psi Chi offers a wide range of local, regional, and national programs. Lewis, students at the University of Kansas, aspired to create a national student organization for psychology. However, the charter that formally created the organization was signed in at Yale University.
In the same year, the Psi Chi Journal of Undergraduate Research was introduced as an international, fully reviewed, quarterly journal dedicated to the publication of undergraduate student research.
